Often, dining at an old favourite is like seeing a good friend after ages… a considerable amount of time may have past since you last met, but when you’re sitting down together, it’s like you never missed a beat!

This was how I felt at Beira Alta a few weekends ago – I had not visited in awhile, but when I was greeted by a warm smile at the door and ushered to a table of my choice on that bitterly cold Saturday afternoon, I felt at home.  (They are based at the Lifestyle Centre in Ballito).

They have lunch specials on at the moment, which we took advantage of. Have a look.

I had always wanted to try a prawn bisque – so I did. To be honest, it was not my favourite dish – it was a soup that tasted like the ocean. Salty and sea-scented. The prawns were plump and juicy.

It got WAY WAY better.

The half a kilogram of prawns was ample! The mild lemon marinade was DELECTABLE! I chose the stir-fried veggies as a side. It was crunchy, fresh and so so good! The baby potatoes were soft and melt-in-the-mouth amazing!

The rack of lamb was a mouth-wateringly perfect. Ordered medium-well, it was perfectly crisped on the outside, succulent on the inside.

The damage ?
